Make Monday Meetings Later
Mondays are infamous for
being meeting days. We held meetings first thing every Monday morning while I
worked in an office environment. Because of that early morning meeting,
everyone on the management team was supposed to be well-informed and on the
same page to start the week. But it didn't turn out so well.
The issue with holding a
meeting first thing in the morning was that no one on the team had a chance to
get back into the swing of things with their respective departments. Now, I'm
not saying it wasn't necessary to be updated about what was going on in other
departments. However, having to hear all
of that information before returning to my own work made what they were saying
less significant. Why? Because I wasn't paying attention to it as much as I
should have.
You won't always have control over meeting hours, especially if you work for someone else. If your meetings are planned for first thing on Mondays and you have any clout with your bosses, see if you can reschedule them for later in the day. Mention how providing each of your coworkers time in their own place before a meeting can help them be more "present" at the meeting. You might even be able to advise rescheduling the meeting for Tuesday, allowing the entire team to finish up work in their respective departments before learning about what's going on in other areas.
If you're certain you won't
be able to avoid an early Monday meeting, make sure you prepare for it the
night before. That alone will brighten up your Monday morning.
